DESTINY, by Fritz Lang, music by Zone Libre
Germany,1921, 1h38 music by Zone Libre (Serge Teyssot-Gay guitar- Cyril Bilbeaud drums)
Original title Der müde Tod
Creation at Cinematheque in Luxembourg/Luxembourg in Nov 2022

As a young couple stops and rests in a small village inn, the man is abducted by Death and is sequestered behind a huge doorless, windowless wall.

The woman finds a mystic entrance and is met by Death, who tells her three separate stories set in exotic locales, all involving circumstances similar to hers. In each story, a woman, trying to save her lover from his ultimate tragic fate, fails.

The young lady realizes the meaning of the tales and takes the only step she can to reunite herself with her lover

Lang's mysterious silent melodrama from 1921 is a parable about love and death that captivates with its ambition, enigma and sophistication.

Destiny, originally titled Der Müde Tod (weary death), is a deeply mysterious tragic melodrama that contrives also to be an expressionist satire, an absurdist opera about our hardwired day-to-day conviction that we, with our youth, health and strength, can overpower tired old Death. (The Guardian)
